Description

Do mushrooms ever strike your curiosity? If so, this is your opportunity to learn about them in this two-hour course presented by NTMA President, Sebastian Tabibi! Join Sebastian as he dives into the fascinating world of mycology, or the field of biology dedicated to studying fungi. Fungi are organisms that break down organic matter and use microscopic spores to reproduce, all while playing vital roles in our ecosystem!

Some of the topics that will be covered in the class include:

  • Various ecological purposes that fungi have in nature.
  • How to begin with mushroom identification & taxonomy
  • Understanding mushroom anatomy
  • Determining edibility or presence of mycotoxins
  • General information and history of mushroom cultivation
  • Exploring potential medicinal benefits, fungal diseases, DNA sequencing & more!

We have recently made our in-person classes FREE for members and only $10 per person for non-members. All of our classes are hybrid presentations, broadcasted over Zoom or available in-person at the AgriLife Extension Services building in North Dallas. We hold our classes every second Saturday of the month from 10am-12pm at the Oak Room on the 2 nd floor of the Governmental building located at 6820 Lyndon B. Johnson Fwy, Dallas, TX 75230 (follow our signs). Those who choose the Zoom option will receive a follow-up email with the link to join the presentation. If you have any questions or concerns, please send us an email at contact@northtexasmycology.org.

The North Texas Mycological Association is very grateful for the partnership that we share with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Services, the County of Dallas, and the North Texas Master Naturalists. We are able to offer our in- person classes again thanks to Dallas County & AgriLife Extension Services, and we encourage our members and participants to check out the various programs and opportunities available through their website at the link below.
