Animal Mycophiles, Critters that Hunt and Farm Mushrooms Presented by Eva Gordon

February 11, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Location: 6820 Lyndon B Johnson Fwy, Dallas, TX 75240 (Suite 3200)

Date/Time: February 11th, 9:00am-12:00pm

Description: The Animal Mycophiles class is based on a book Eva Gordon is currently writing titled, Animal Mycophiles, the Mutualistic Relationship between Fauna and Fungi. There are numerous studies and books about plant/fungi and human/fungi relationships, yet except for some academic research papers, very little is known about the science of animal and fungal relationships and their ecological importance. Eva will uncover the hidden world of animal fungal mutualism. She will cover Zoochory, Mycophagy and Fungiculture. The class will explore examples of such beneficial symbiosis by fungi and various taxa within the two major groups of Kingdom Animalia, invertebrates and vertebrates.

Eva Gordon’s background is in Zoology and Evolutionary Biology. She was a science educator who taught AP Biology, Anatomy Physiology, Chemistry, and Environmental Science for twenty years. She was instrumental in bringing Biotechnology to the SFUSD and San Mateo County School Districts. She has also taught STEM programs from elementary to high school level, and presented workshops to science educators. Eva is currently an author, a Master Naturalist and is currently on the Education Committee for the North American Mycological Association. She will also be in charge of NAMA’s new Book Club. Eva spends her days looking for fungi and, doing research and editing her book, Animal Mycophiles, the Mutualistic Relationship between Fauna and Fungi. Release day sometime in 2024, TBA.
